My Essential Eye Brushes

Monday 9 March 2015

Hey guys, today I thought I would share with you my most used/essential eye brushes. Of course there are many different types of brushes out there all tailored for different purposes, however for the most part I think that with only these brushes you can get by for creating any look.

MAC 224
This brush is the ultimate big fluffy blending brush. It's perfect for blending a colour all over the lid to set a base, and great for blending out harsh lines around the edges. It's natural bristle (?) and loosely packed meaning it doesn't deposit a lot of product but does a great job of blending large areas. This brush can also be used for blending in/setting concealer and applying highlighter to the cheekbones/nose etc.

MAC 239
This brush is perfect for packing colour onto the lid. It's the perfect shape and size, and can even be used for applying colour to the lower lash line. Although a stiffer synthetic brush can sometimes be better for applying pigments or packing on wet shadows, I find that the 239 is softer and works well with dry shadows (which is what I most often work with).

MAC 217
This is my absolute must have brush. If I could only use one brush for the rest of my life, this would be it. It's the perfect size for blending through the crease, but can also be used for blending out harsh edges, and even for packing on colour (although not quite as effective as a flat brush, it still does the job). It can even be used to blend in concealer and cream eyeshadow, however I would recommend a synthetic brush rather than this one as they're easier to clean and less likely to be stained.

Red Earth Small Domed brush (discontinued)
I bought this brush years ago when Red Earth were doing an overhaul in their design so everything was marked down super cheap. It's a little bit larger and looser than a standard pencil brush, however a pencil brush would also do the same job (I have my eye on the MAC 219). I use this for applying colour to the outer V, as well as both the upper and lower lash lines.

Ecotools Angled Brush
This brush came in the starter set and as far as I know can't be purchased alone, however I think that the rest of the brushes that come in the set are also super handy for someone starting out in makeup. Honestly I'm not too fussed by the brand of angled brush, as long as it is thin and stiff enough to apply product precisely. I use this for applying dark shadows to the lash line as a liner, and on days when I'm after super sharp brows, I use this for that too. This brush is very similar to the MAC 266.

Real Techniques Detailer Brush
Unfortunately this brush comes in the starter set and cannot be purchased alone. I love using this brush as a sort of middle ground between the angled brush and pencil brush. I use it for adding definition very precisely into the outer V, or sometimes for smudging out liner on the lash line. It's super handy for detailed work (detailer brush.. duh), and can even be used for tiny spot concealing and for applying lipstick.

Of course there's a multitude of other brushes out there that may come in handy for different purposes, however if I could only choose a handful to use for the rest of my life, these are the ones I would choose.

Hope you guys enjoyed.

Until next time...
Cara xx
